Seniors Celebrate Their Achievements

As the Class of 2008 was busy showcasing their senior projects and studying for finals, senior Rebecca Kolberg was also tying up any loose ends for the Senior Ball, a major event of Senior Week. What is Senior Week? It's an exciting tradition that involves the whole graduating class in seven days of carefully balanced adventure and relaxation. "Everyone is going, going, going all year long, and most are taking heavy loads so they can't go out and have fun yet," says Kolberg. "Senior week is so great since it begins after all the hard work is done. You now have the time to relax and spend it with friends, many of whom you might not see for a while." Continue Story »»

Record Number of New Faces Expected This Fall

This year Stevens received a record number of applications for the incoming class, according to Daniel Gallagher, Dean of University Admissions at Stevens. "The number will eclipse 3,100. This is the largest incoming class in the history of Stevens!"

A total of 585 students plan to arrive in August, including 540 freshman and 45 transfer students. This class represents 25 of the 50 states and an additional 9 countries. Approximately 67.5% applied to study engineering, 20% are interested in a natural science or computer science, and 12% want to study business or arts and letters. "We typically see a cross-over in applications with RPI, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon, Lehigh and Cornell," says Gallagher. "This is an extremely bright group-the majority ranks in the top 10% of their class and have an overall GPA of 3.7 or greater."

Housing for Sophomores

Did you know that more than 80 million people will celebrate their 18th birthday over the next decade? Add to it that more young people in general want to go to college and the enthusiasm increases! Yet, as a result, this may mean that schools need to provide more space, including classrooms, labs, gymnasiums and athletic fields, dining halls and residence halls. We at Stevens want you to rest assured. We are continuing, as always, to work diligently to make the campus a comforting extension of home for your child. Continue Story »»

Administrator Profile

Daniel Gallagher
Dean of University Admissions

Q: Describe your current role at Stevens.
A: My current role as Dean of University Admissions means that I am responsible for the recruitment of both undergraduate and graduate students. At the undergraduate level I oversee the recruitment, processing, and decision making of applicants, whereas at the graduate level my responsibilities pertain to the recruitment and processing only, since faculty make the admissions decisions. In addition, I also handle institutional research, which means that if you find facts about Stevens Institute of Technology in various guide books, rankings, or reports, most likely I provided the data.
