Housing for Sophomores

Did you know that more than 80 million people will celebrate their 18th birthday over the next decade? This fact is currently a hot topic at most colleges and universities across the country and the admissions officers are smiling. Add to it that more young people in general want to go to college and the enthusiasm increases! Yet, as a result, this may mean that schools need to provide more space, including classrooms, labs, gymnasiums and athletic fields, dining halls and residence halls. We at Stevens want you to rest assured. We are continuing, as always, to work diligently to make the campus a comforting extension of home for your child.

Be assured that every student who applied for housing on time is guaranteed a place to live, says Trina Ballantyne, Dean Residence Life at Stevens. "Unless they cancel with us in writing, they will definitely be assigned a room before the start of the fall semester."

"Traditionally we do not begin placement until the summer," says Ballantyne, "so we can offer our students the greatest number of options based on their housing preferences. We assign students who are guaranteed housing according to lottery number as vacancies become available. Vacancies become available during the summer as students cancel due to co-op, Greek housing, living off campus, or other personal choices."

"While we do guarantee housing for those students that applied on time, we are unable to guarantee the preferred building or roommate, but we will try to accommodate your child's request.

"We ask that you and your child please be patient and wait for notification. All room assignments are made via Stevens e-mail only," says Ballantyne, "and your child can view their assignment easily by logging into RMS. Check as often as you like, but ultimately enjoy your summer knowing that your child will have a place to live this fall!"
