Send an email to bkalva@stevens.edu with the following information:
1. Your first and last name
2. Room Number
3. Phone Numbers (room / cell)
4. Whether you plan to take the bus or drive yourself
5. Any equipment you will be bringing
6. Please use or specify another email address you frequently use.
2. When and where are the trips scheduled for?
A schedule can be found here.
3. What do I need to go on a Paintball Club trip?
All you need to is pay the $30 fee for the trip. We supply all equipment needed including a painball gun, mask, 1000 paintballs, co2 and a jumpsuit. You should wear older clothes and shoes (preferably sneakers or boots, please no sandals), because although we supply a jumpsuit to keep your clothes clean, paint can leak through. You may also want to bring some water, or a bagged lunch, although both of these are available on site.
4. Am I saving any money by playing paintball with the club?
Yes, you are saving a considerable amount. The public can usually expect to spend triple the amount of what club members have to pay. This is due to the club's own inventory, school funding and field discounts.
5. Do I need to have any experience?
No. We cover all the basic safety instruction, as well as some basic equipment operation and gameplay techniques. There are always around 6 or 7 new people on every trip and the majority of our players have never played before they came to Stevens, including the entire executive board.
6. Does it hurt to get hit with a paintball?
It probably doesn't hurt as much as you think. We keep all guns tuned to shoot the balls at about 275 feet per second to ensure nobody gets hit too hard. But I am not going to lie to you, sometimes it can sting a bit when you get hit. But I would say that about 1 in 8 hits actually sting, and it is comparable to being snapped with a rubber band or a plastic ruler.
7. How safe is it to play paintball?
Surprising as it is, paintball is statistically one of the safest sports you can play. You have a greater chance of getting injured playing baseball, soccer, tennis or golf. We are proud to say that we have never had an injury on any club trip.
8. How do we get to the field?
In the past few years we have had to car pool to most club events. Lately, we have had a small bus to take us to our events. We also appreciate anybody who can drive for our events.
9. Do any girls really go on these trips?
Yes. Yes they do.
10. Can I use my own equipment?
Sure. The only limitations we have on personal equipment is that it is in working order, that its velocity can be set, and that it is not fully automatic. You should also know how to service your gun, because we might not know how to repair your particular gun. Also, if you have a Wal Mart special that is made of plastic (Talon, Brass Eagle, etc), it is strongly recommended that you use our club equipment. Also, we don't offer any discount to the entry fee if you have your own gear.
11. What type of games do you play?
We generally play what is called rec ball. We break into two teams, on a wooded field, and try to capture the other team's flag. We also sometimes play a faster paced game called speedball. This is the same capture the flag type game but it is on a smaller field with fixed bunkers and is the main form of competitive paintball played.
