RESUME CHECKLIST ______________________________________________________________________________

HEADER         ___ I verified the accuracy of my addresses, phone numbers, and email.

LAYOUT          ___ I checked & corrected spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.

                          ___ My margins are set at NO LESS than 0.5 inches on all four sides.

                          ___ I did not use underlines and (parentheses) as these can make my
                                  resume hard to read when faxed or scanned.

                           ___ I abbreviated technical terms or US states only. Recruiters may
                                   not be familiar with other abbreviations, such as course titles.

OBJECTIVE    ___ I have indicated what I can contribute to a company, not what I
                                  want to get from the company.

                          ___ For the Resume Book, my objective is generic so it can apply to
                                  several different companies/industries.

EDUCATION  ___ Stevens Institute and the highest degree I am earning are listed first.

                          ___ I listed my degree, major(s)/minor(s), & expected graduation date.

                          ___ I have added honors such as Dean's List and a 3.0+ GPA if wanted.

COURSES        ___ I have listed up to 6 classes in my field of study and/or interest.

                            ___ Classes show skills I have, but are not evident in my experience.

EXPERIENCE  ___ Relevant work experience is listed in reverse chronological order.

       ___ Dates of employment (month/year) are lined up on the right side of
              my resume, on the same line as my employer or as my job title.

                           ___ I have listed ACCOMPLISHMENTS not RESPONSIBILITIES.
                                     Weak: Assisted managers with design of new office building
                                     Good: Designed floor plans of new office building on AutoCAD

                           ___ I have replaced "used", "utilized", "helped", and "worked with"
                                  with those that best reflect my contributions to the company.

SKILLS             ___ I listed technical skills first so the recruiters know what I know.

                           ___ I did not use phrases like "basic knowledge" or "extremely
                                  proficient" because this takes away from other skills.

ACTIVITIES     ___ I  included technical & extracurricular activities & leadership
                                   roles I have held.

                           ___ I have shown interest in outside activities like theater, skiing, etc.

WORK               ___ I chose to provide or not provide my work authorization.
STATUS
                            ___ If I am a US Citizen or Permanent Resident, it is in my best  
                                    interest to provide this information, but if I am on a Visa, I may
                                    not want to list it on my resume.

                           ___ If I provided it, it's in plain text, centered at the end of my resume.
