The Stevens Externship Program
Your chance to help our newest generation
of Stevens students begin the process of identifying and planning
for their careers.
The Office of Career Development is pleased to
announce the launch of a new program targeted to our students who are
looking to venture out into the professional world for the first
time. The Stevens Externship Program is designed to match a Stevens
student with a Stevens alumnus/a or corporate representative for a one
day job shadowing experience during Winter or Spring Recess.
What is an externship?
An externship is a brief (1 day) assignment that
allows a student to experience the daily routine of the work place and
provides insight to the nature of the work performed and the career
paths of the employees of the site. Students make their own travel
arrangements and do not receive credit or pay.
What does an Externship Sponsor do?
A Stevens Externship Sponsor hosts a Stevens
student’s visit to his/her organization. As a Sponsor, you would
welcome the student to your place of work and oversee an agenda that
allows for discussion and information about your career field and your
organization and its operations. Activities could include meeting
with other members of your organization, a tour of the facility,
attending meetings or appointments if appropriate, a discussion with
you on how you chose your career path, and career changes you have
made.
When does this take place?
You and the student choose a mutually convenient
day during the school recess listed below, or you can indicate a
specific date in advance of being matched with a student.

How are students matched with Sponsors?
Based on your preferences, the Office of Career
Development will match an extern with you. You will only be contacted
by the student who has been assigned to you.
How do I sign up?
Complete the
Externship
Sponsor Interest Form and the Office of Career Development will
contact you with additional program materials that include an
application and timeline. We will later ask you to provide a brief
description of your organization and confirm your preferences as to students
in specific majors or with specific career interests.
