10/17/2012

On October 13, 2012, Giovanni Gaccione ’09 ’11 and Katherina Imperial ’10 ’11 were announced as the 2012 recipients of the Robert Reed Service Award at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall.

David Zimmerman ’90, Executive Director of DeBaun Center for Performing Arts, made the announcement during the curtain speech of the evening performance of Tomfoolery, a musical review by Tom Lehrer being presented during Homecoming and Freshman Parents Weekend 2012.  Both Gaccione and Imperial were producers for Tomfoolery and Imperial also served as choreographer.

“It was by unanimous decision of the staff of DeBaun Center,” said Zimmerman during his announcement, “that Giovanni and Kathy receive this award for the amount of work they put into creating the idea of putting on and producing this show [Tomfoolery].” In addition to volunteering their time on Tomfoolery, they have also contributed their time and resources to other events at DeBaun Center since their graduation from Stevens.  With this production of Tomfoolery, there are now continuing plans to make this type of production an annual event.

The Robert Reed Service Award is named for Robert Reed ’70 and former Executive Director of DeBaun Center.  The award inscription reads as follows:  “This award is named for the one person who has been the ultimate volunteer, giving of himself, his time, talent and energy to the Center and its Student Staff.  This will award will be given annually to a person(s) or organization that has given of themselves unselfishly to support the staff and mission of the Center for Performing Arts at the Grace E. and Kenneth W. DeBaun Auditorium.”
