Stevens Team led by Dr. Ali Mostashari selected to be part of the USAID Higher Education Solutions Network (HESN)
A Stevens team led by the Sociotechnical Systems Program Director, Dr. Ali Mostashari was selected by USAID to be part of the USAID (HESN), a network of selective universities and research universities oriented around science, technology, and innovation for development. This network, the Higher Education Solutions Network, will develop a multi-dimensional community of practice to proliferate ideas, best practices, and exchanges with USAID and the larger development community.
Earlier, the Stevens team, together with researchers from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, the National University of Malaysia (UKM), ESPOL (Ecuador), and Microclinic International had applied for a $30 million grant for leveraging technology for development. The team made it to the final round of 12 among more than 500 proposals from 49 states and 33 countries, but was not selected as part of the five centers chosen . However, USAID indicated that the richness of the Stevens team submission and the enormous creativity, energy, and capacity expressed in the the application, they will be creating future opportunities to further engage with USAID for Stevens and a few select others within a network of selective universities and research universities oriented around science, technology, and innovation for development.
