Stevens Professor Chandramouli Delivering Cognitive Radio Keynote in India
Dr. Rajarathnam Chandramouli of Stevens Institute of Technology will deliver a keynote lecture at the International Workshop on Cognitive Radio (IWCR). A companion element of the IEEE International Conference on Internet Multimedia Systems Architecture and Application, IWCR 2010 will be held in Bangalore, India on December 15.
Dr. Chandramouli, the Thomas E. Hattrick Chair Professor of Information Systems in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is a prolific researcher in cognitive radio, wireless networks, and applications in Internet data security. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), US Army, Office of Naval Research, Air Force Research Lab, National Institute of Justice (NIJ), other Department of Defense agencies, and industry. He is the President and Co-Founder of InStream Media, Inc., which provides a suite of software and Internet applications for identifying deception in text data. Many of the InStream Media tools are available for demonstration at the Stevens Text Analytics site.
NSF and NIJ are currently funding a research prototype for dynamic spectrum access developed at Stevens. SpiderRadio, for which Dr. Chandramouli is a co-author of the provisional US patent, is being developed for initial use for first responder wireless communications. In his keynote, "Challenges in Cognitive Radio Networking: From Protocols to Prototype," Dr. Chandramouli will address the emerging field of cognitive radio and outline the current challenges to research and implementation. He will apply his expertise in cognitive radio research and development to identify the key issues in realizing cognitive radio prototypes that can be field tested. Dr. Chandramouli will also give a demonstration of SpiderRadio's cognitive capabilities, which include intelligence, decision making, and control.
Stevens Institute of Technology, The Innovation UniversityTM, has a comprehensive commitment to addressing issues in wireless networking and cybersecurity. Since 2003, Stevens has been designated by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education, and in 2008, Stevens was one of the first schools receiving the designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Research. Faculty at the university aggressively pursue funding to grow programs in research and instruction to fill the existing gap between supply and demand of trained cybersecurity professionals.
