Stevens Institute of Technology to unveil new logo

The university’s new visual identity will be chosen via Facebook

9/20/2010

HOBOKEN, N.J. - In celebration of its 140 th anniversary, Stevens Institute of Technology is preparing to unveil a new logo, one that will be a more vibrant and expressive symbol of the one of the country’s premier research institutions.

First, however, Stevens needs a little help from its fans.

The university has launched “Let’s FACE it, it takes a campus to decide,” a program that will put the power to decide on the new look directly in the hands of online users.

Beginning on March 2, 2010 Stevens will post four logo options on its Facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/Stevens1870) within a custom voting application and will encourage current students, alumni, faculty and anyone with an interest the university to vote for the next logo.

Over the past six months, Stevens has been working with Spiral Design Studios of Albany, N.Y. to create the new visual identity that will present the history, character, commitments and aspirations that has made Stevens a top choice for technology and engineering students and a destination for world-class faculty.

“This is tremendous opportunity for Stevens to both celebrate our history and accomplishments, as part of our 140 th campaign, as well as demonstrate our commitment to increasingly use interactive and social media to build community,” said Michael Schinelli, AVP for Graduate Marketing and Communications. “Our students and alumni are the greatest expression of our brand.  It’s only appropriate that they should be play a key role in our future graphic identity.”

The four finalist logos were developed after dozens of interviews and several focus groups that asked people from all aspects of Stevens to describe the unique and authentic attributes of the university.

Now, with that same spirit of cooperation, Stevens will open up the final vote to anyone who has connected with the school via social networking. The campaign will be promoted throughout campus events and outreach to stakeholders around the world.

Voting will be open for three days – March 2-4, 2010. Visitors to the fan page will see four black-colored renderings and can select their choice on the website. Once the votes are tallied, a winner will be announced and the full color logo, with the addition of the university’s new tagline “The Innovation University” will be unveiled shortly after the vote, as one of the many 140 th anniversary events that are planned.
