Building Intelligent Systems from the Beginning to the End
Dr. Jose Ramirez-Marquez receives NPS funding for research on availability of systems through the systems lifecycle
The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) has awarded Dr. Jose Ramirez-Marquez, Associate Professor, School of Systems and Enterprises at Stevens Institute of Technology, and the University of Oklahoma a one-year joint research grant for developing techniques and methods that will enhance critical intelligence in the designing of large-scale systems operation. In the last decade, NPS has funded research studies for over a million dollars at Stevens, in the complex systems engineering arena.
“I am deeply honored to receive this grant from NPS, said Dr. Ramirez-Marquez. The grant reinforces the Stevens culture of innovation through collaboration and validates the belief that great intelligence ensues when systemic minds come together. Our partnership with the Risk-Based Systems Analysis Laboratory at the University of Oklahoma is producing extensive research in the reliability analysis and optimization of complex systems, the computational analysis of resilience, and the development of evolutionary optimization algorithms.”
In the current technological environment, the scale and complexity of systems is increasing dramatically. To reduce the risk of systems failure, repair and maintenance timelines, and to enhance the resilience and availability of the systems lifecycle, it is crucial to develop intelligent data metrics that will address system-level maintenance decisions, and sustain systems through their entire life span.
“Supporting systems across their lifecycle is a highly expensive proposition, and in recent years there has been a rising interest in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations of large-scale systems", Dr. Ramirez-Marquez mentioned. "Industries such as aerospace, civil infrastructure, and military have systems frameworks that are large and complex, and need to be reliable in times of criticality.”
“The end goal is to create knowledge that will augment the understanding of the systems design and build efficiencies from the start to the end process", summed Dr. Ramirez-Marquez.
