Annual Scholarship Brunch Brings Together Recipients and Donors
Student scholarship recipients had a chance to say thank you to their scholarship donors this month during a luncheon which brought both parties together at Stevens. Scholarships, provided by the generous support of a variety of donors, account for more than one million dollars of aid for our students each year.
The donors were a mix of both those offering personal scholarship funds and representatives for their class. They represented 26 of Stevens scholarship funds. More than 100 students along with their parents attended the recognition luncheon.
“Our annual scholarship luncheon provides the donors and the students with the opportunity to meet and share their Stevens experiences,” said Edward Eichhorn Vice President for Development. “This year’s luncheon was a great success. The students and their families got the opportunity to meet many of our scholarship sponsors, and our donors got to learn about the very positive impact of their philanthropy for today’s undergraduates.”
Speakers included Joseph J. Kaminski, a graduate of the Class of 1960 who contributed his scholarship gift six years ago at the time of his 45th reunion and Justin Rodriguez, class of 2008, who was the first recipient of The Kaminski Family Endowed Scholarship.
The Kaminski Scholarship is given to a student with a minimum GPA of 2.8 and financial need. The preference is for the award to be given to a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, Joe’s own alma mater. Both Rodriguez and Tatyana Kaverina, Kaminski’s current student recipient who attended the brunch with her mother and brother, are also Brooklyn Tech graduates.
Kaminski and Rodriguez have enjoyed a close connection and similar journey. Rodriguez even plans to attend Kaminski’s own alma mater for an MBA program, at Dartmouth.
“The connections you make at this event are about so much more than just the generous support you receive in scholarship aid from donors,” Rodriguez told the students in attendance. “It is all about building relationships that are long lasting.”
