Policy for the Use of Study Rooms (2nd and 3rd floor)

Policy for Burchard Lounge

Second floor group study rooms:

  1. Reservations of Study Rooms may be made by Stevens students, faculty, and staff. Students may request study rooms at the Circulation Services Desk. To make an advance reservation of a group study room, please make arrangements with library staff members Linda Beninghove, John Cruz, or Nydia Cruz.  Advance reservations may not be taken by Circulation Services Desk attendants.
  2. The requester is required to add his or her name and email address to the sign-in sheet provided by the attendant at the Circulation Services Desk.
  3. Requesters are required to provide their Stevens ID in exchange for the key to the assigned study room.  The Stevens ID will be returned to the requester when the key is returned to the Circulation Services Desk attendant on time.  
  4. Study Room 210 and Media Room 209 require groups of 4 to 10 people.  These rooms are for group study and meetings.
  5. Library Study Rooms will not be used as classroom space.  Recurring meetings are not permitted, for example weekly meetings.
  6. At the end of the meeting or study session, the requester must return the key on time to the Circulation Services Desk attendant in return for the Stevens ID.
  7. There is a 4-hour limit for Study Room use.
  8. It is not permissible to cover the windows of the third-floor study rooms (310, 312, 314, 316, 318).
  9. Regular rounds of the library building are made during the library's hours of operation, and the Study Rooms will be regularly inspected by library staff.  Groups and individuals are asked to report any damaged equipment, furniture, or vandalism to the Circulation Services Desk attendant immediately.  The requester will be held responsible for any damage or vandalism that occurs during the reservation period, resulting in loss of library room reservation privileges and a report will be filed with the Office of Student Life.
  10. The requester (and the group, if applicable) agree to leave the room in the condition it was found.
  11. The library reserves the right to update this policy as needed.
 

Burchard Lounge 127 Policies

The Burchard Lounge 127 is managed by the Library.  Below you will find information and guidelines for the Lounge.

Burchard Lounge 127 Hours:

The Burchard Lounge (Room 127) will be available as follows:

Monday through Friday:  8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Saturday:  8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (12:00 noon)

Members of the Stevens community must use the campus card reader to enter the Lounge.

General Guidelines for the Burchard Lounge:

  • Please be respectful of others studying in the Burchard Lounge.
  • Please discard of trash in proper receptacles.
  • Please report any issues with the lounge to the Library Circulation Services Desk immediately at 201-216-5200.
  • Please do not leave your personal belongings unattended.

Reservation of the Team Room (Burchard 127-B)

  • The Burchard 127-B Team Room is available for reservation by students and administrative offices with the purpose of being directly helpful to students.  Reservations may be made using the Library’s LibCal online room reservation system at https://www.stevens.edu/library/services/study-rooms
  • Reservations of the Team Room are available Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (12:00 noon).  
  • When a reservation is made using the LibCal online system, a confirmation email will be sent to the requester; the requester must confirm the reservation promptly.  The requester is advised to bring a printed copy of the reservation to show that they have reserved the room.
  • The Burchard 127-B Team Room seats up to 10 people.
  • Please be respectful of others studying in the Burchard Lounge.
  • Please discard of trash in proper receptacles.
  • Please report any issues with the room to the Library Circulation Services Desk immediately at 201-216-5200.

Quiet Room (Burchard 127-A)

The Quiet Room is for quiet study only. There will be no reservations permitted for the Quiet Room.

Lockers:

When students have questions or issues with the lockers, please call the Work Order Desk in the Division of Facilities and Campus Operations at 201-216-5275.

Copier/Printer:

The networked copier/printer is managed by the Library.  All members of the Stevens community may install the necessary printer drivers onto their computer in order to send print jobs to the copier/printer.  Information about the copier/printer is available at  http://www.stevens.edu/library/services/print_copy_scan

When students have questions about the copier/printer, please call the Library Circulation Services Desk at 201-216-5200.

Use of the Microwave:

All Stevens students, faculty, and staff are welcome to use the microwave for food preparation.  Please report any maintenance issues regarding the microwave to the Library Circulation Services Desk at 201-216-5200.  

Cleaning and Maintenance:

Please report any issues regarding cleaning and maintenance of the Burchard Lounge to the Library Circulation Services Desk immediately at 201-216-5200.

Emergency and Safety:

Please report emergencies to the Stevens Campus Police at 3911 or 201-216-5105.
