Why cite your sources
When you quote or paraphrase another person's idea in your research paper, it is imperative that you provide a proper citation to the source you used:
- To avoid plagiarism (presenting someone else's ideas as your own is a violation of the Honor Code)
- To give credit to the author of the idea
- To allow someone else to locate the source
- To lend credibility to your work
How to cite your sources
There are different standards for citing sources in bibliographies of research papers, depending on the academic discipline. In general, however, a citation should include all of the information necessary for someone else to locate the source (author, title, source & issue information, date). Ask your professor which particular style he/she prefers.

- European Patent Office
Contains the full text for the last 24 months of European Patent Applications, the last 24 months of PCT pamphlets, Worldwide patents back to 1978 and Japanese Patent Applications back to 1980.
United States, European and some Japanese patents can be searched using the Scopus and Compendex databases.

The Library's Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Services Department can obtain copies of patents for you for just $1 per patent. Submit a Journal Article Request Form for patents that are not available from any of the free web sites listed above.

This is a specialized list of resources for students and faculty in the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Engineering (PME) program within the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Important note: Online resources (such as the ABI/Inform, Business Source Premier, and Scopus databases) to which the S.C. Williams Library subscribes are available to Stevens students, faculty, and staff only.
