Graduate Students

The graduate students of Stevens Institute have a variety of issues and needs unique from those of undergraduates. We here at Samuel C. Williams Library want to do all we can to address those needs. Here you will find library information specifically geared for graduate students.

Please note: Your Stevens ID is needed to gain access to the library building. If accessing our collections (databases, ebooks) from off-campus, your myStevens username and password will be required.

      STUDY SPACE

Graduate Student Affairs provides students with a Graduate Study Lounge, located on the 3rd floor of the library; your Stevens ID card is required for entrance. Information on reserving study spaces throughout the library can be found here.

   DATABASE DEMOS

The databases we subscribe to are large and detailed, and when you need to collect every article on a subject, it can be frustrating if you don’t know all the tricks. Let us help you figure out how to retrieve the most relevant results to your research. This can be done one-on-one, in a small group (2-6), or in a workshop (7-20). We can even on occasion invite the company that owns the database to send a representative for a demonstration and Q&A.Email the Graduate Student Liaison to set up a demonstration.

    LAPTOP LENDING

Laptops are now available for loan! Grad students can check them out from the Circulation Desk for 4 hours at a time, and they cannot leave the library. For more information, go to Laptop Lending.

 INTERLIBRARY LOAN

Books, journal articles, and dissertations that are not available in the library or in a library subscription database can be requested through Interlibrary Loan / Document Delivery Services (ILL/DDS). There is no charge for borrowing books through ILL/DDS, and books must be picked up in the library. Article requests cost $1, dissertations cost $10.

    RESEARCH HELP

PRINTING COPYING & SCANNING

The printers are networked. You can download the printer drivers onto your laptop and send print jobs to the networked printer.Printing and copying costs and more information are listed on the library's guide for Printing, Copying, and Scanning.

THESIS/DISSERTATION

The library is here to help you throughout the process of writing and submitting your dissertation or thesis. We offer workshops on researching throughout the semester, and you can always schedule a consultation with a librarian when you’re ready to delve deeply into your topic. Check out the Graduate Student research guide for information on writing an in-depth research paper.

Stevens requires all dissertations to be submitted electronically through the ETD Administrator before they are submitted to the library for binding. Theses, senior reports, senior thesis and senior design projects are submitted in person to Doris Oliver. For information on submission requirements for dissertations, theses, and other final projects, see Submit a Thesis/Dissertation. A handy FAQ can be found here.
