This page is for the use of Jacobus employees and contains information regarding employee schedules, policies, etc.
Schedules, Contacts, and Timecards
This is where you can find the
current schedule to Jacobus, employee contact information, and a current spreadsheet of the hours that have been logged in the book, as well as timecard progress. If there are any inconsistencies, or you want to change hours contact the managers:
jacobus@stevens.edu.
Employment is only for work study eligible students:
- Jacobus Student Center is run under the Office Of Student Life, and therefore there are only work study positions are available.
- In order to determine if you are work study eligible, you
can contact the Student Service Center, or check your Web for
Students account, under Financial Aid > Award Information by
Year.
- You will not be added to the schedule if you do not have work study.
Jacobus Lounge Attendants
- Responsibilities
- Lend out pool, ping pong, air
hockey and foosball equipment to Stevens students.
- You are responsible for all
equipment if you do not report any theft or damage.
- Hold the student’s Stevens
ID card behind the desk when they borrow equipment. If
there is a transfer of the equipment to another student,
be sure to obtain that second student’s ID card.
- Remain seated behind the counter
whenever possible.
- Sell food and beverages to
students.
- Answer the telephone and try to
direct the call or answer the question.
- Generally, try to keep peace
within the lounge (including disputes over what to watch on
TV, loud music, etc.) Majority rules.
- Supervise the lounge. Do not
let people walk out with anything, damage anything, mess
with anything in the lounge. If they look like they are
doing something suspicious, ask them what they are doing.
- Assist individuals with
reserving the lounge for an event if they would like to.
- Arrive at least five minutes
prior to your shift.
- Lounge Rules
- NO smoking or alcohol permitted
within Jacobus. Smokers may smoke out on the unenclosed
section of the porch.
- Only students who are working
their shift are permitted behind the counter.
- No one may post ads or flyers on
the walls or doors anywhere within the Student Center. They
may leave a stack on the counter.
- Game Room
- No food or drinks are to be
brought into the pool room.
- Make sure that the back door
is kept closed. Students must enter and exit the
building from the front door.
- No one may sit or climb on
the pool tables.
- You may lend up to four
sticks per table.
- Reservations
- Any group that wants to use
the space for a designated, advertised event must
reserve the lounge on the Jacobus web site. All events
must remain open to all students unless the event has
been approved by Jacobus management as closed.
- Work with the group holding
the event to make sure they have everything they need
for a successful event.
- Any reservation inquiries
should be directed to the reservation
section of the Jacobus website.
- JAB’s Reservation Policies
- Reservations for various
areas in Jacobus can be made through the Jacobus
website at www.stevens.edu/jacobus.
- Reservations will be
made at a first-come, first served basis with no
group or groups having priority over others.
- The individuals holding
an event are responsible for cleaning up after the
event and will be held responsible for any damages
incurred.
- The dance room is
available for reservation through the Jacobus
website. Additionally, several physical education
classes meet in the dance room. Classes have
priority.
- Opening Procedure
- Obtain the keys from the front
desk in the Howe Center (unless the lounge is already open
and another employee is finishing their shift).
- Prop the main door to the lounge
open.
- If it is past dusk, turn on all
lights.
- Unlock the enclosed porch and
patio doors.
- Turn on the television or music
through the sound system in the main room. Turn on the
television in the game room. The goal is to make the lounge
an inviting place for students.
- Count all the money, food, and
drinks and check all equipment.
- Briefly check the lounge for any
damage or other maintenance items, and be sure to note them
and contact the Jacobus management.
- Closing Procedure
- Turn off the televisions.
Return the remotes to the closet.
- Return all game equipment to the
closet.
- Clean counters, floor and tables
if they are excessively messy.
- Close and lock doors to the
enclosed porch and patio.
- Ensure that no one is left
outside or in the lounge anywhere.
- Check the back door to make sure
it has not been propped open.
- Turn off all lights.
- Lock the front door (be sure to
release the bar).
- Return the keys immediately to
the officers at the front desk in the Howe Center.

Resource Center Attendants
- Responsibilities
- Lend out supplies to student
organizations to use
- Have student sign out any supplies
that are borrowed
- Open conference rooms for students to
use
- Assist student organizations with
printing, making copies and faxing
- Supervise the second floor of Jacobus,
note damage or theft

lounge on the Jacobus web site. Make sure to check the
reservation calendar before allowing someone to enter a
room.
- Make sure the room is
straightened up (chairs are neatly pushed back) after
each meeting.
