Attila Technologies, LLC
Business Description
Attila Technologies, LLC is a newly formed wireless communications company that provides continuous broadband on demand communication devices and services despite congested airways. Attila’s products are based on newly patented, break through technology from Stevens Institute of Technology. This technology is critical to developing a communication system that cannot be interrupted, or jammed, resulting in ultra reliable, high speed communications. Attila’s approach solves the two most important problems faced by first responders in a disaster – continuous communications and interoperability.
Market
The initial market is the first responder market. Attila’s adaptive radio meets the critical communication needs of the first responders, as set forth by DHS. There is a clear, emergent need as cities are installing 802.11 hot spots for broadband for police officers to drive to. In contrast, Attila’s radio will turn the entire city into a virtual hot spot for the first responders. In addition its interoperability and security make the military market a viable one.
The valuation of this initial market is $1B - based on over 350,000 first responder vehicles at $3K each.
Additional markets include the automotive industry – Internet video enabled car with broadband coverage and no dead spots, includes: capability to connect to a GPS system for real time traffic feed back; best routes to take with directions; evacuation routes and accident prevention.
Technology
A leader in the adaptive radio market, its patent pending technology enabled an adaptive mobile radio/router that automatically maximizes the users needs with the local wireless environment and provides simultaneous transmission over multiple networks for the following capabilities: continuous communication despite extreme network congestion; everywhere becomes a hot spot; interoperability between dissimilar networks; no existing infrastructure required; uninterruptible meta network mobile broadband (voice, video) on demand; and is highly reliable.
History
Attila Technologies LLC, is a Stevens Institute of Technology, Technogenesis® company, founded in 2005 by University Research & Enterprise Development, and the technology co- inventors: Dr. Patrick White and Nicholas Girard. The patent pending technology was largely developed under funding from the National Science Foundation. To date, prototypes have been developed and will be tested for deployment for field testing. Received 2006 Best of FOSE Award, and patent filed. Received initial investment from Stevens, seeking additional investors and partners.
Business Strategy
Start with first responder market to fulfill national critical need, and build Attila’s credibility. Focus on federal and local first responders – Expand beyond first responder market. Commercial Market - additional markets include the automotive industry
Barriers to Entry
Patent pending technology, significant in house knowledge of technology field, leading experts in SCTP and multi net working, significant investment in research and development over two year period.
Recognitions
Best of FOSE 2006 Award for Outstanding Networking Software. FOSE was held in at the Convention Center in Washington, DC, March 7-9, 2006, and was attended by 20,000 federal high-tech buyers along with 5,000 industry professionals and more than 500 exhibitors.
Competitive Advantage
Attila Technologies provides smart, inexpensive and un-blockable communication.
Other Methods:
Radio limited to one channel Radio performance limited to capabilities of small set of n networks Heterogeneous security mechanisms limiting performance
In Contrast, Attila Technologies
Radios monitor swath of n networks, for automatic selection of “best” available -- Factor of n improvement in reliability – Simultaneously transmits over all available networks - performance is the union of all n available networks - factor of n improvement in bandwidth Global security optimized for performance via cross-layer interactions
