Embedded intelligence added to a given level of a complete networked system has the potential to impact other levels of the system. The iNetS research thrust areas are designed to establish a framework within which the complete networked system can be envisioned as specific research topics are explored. This framework extends from a high-level view of the overall network of networks down through individual networks of the system to the end-user. The framework consists of six thrust areas designed to provide this integrated picture of the entire networked system, as illustrated below.
