RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Polymeric biomaterials and hydrogels; biomaterials-associated infection;
electron microscopy; electron-beam lithography; electron energy-loss spectroscopy.

Matthew Libera is a Professor of Materials Science at the Stevens Institute of Technology.
His expertise focuses principally on the development and understanding of polymers and polymeric biomaterials.
Much of his current research centers on nanostructured hydrogel-based materials
with applications to problems involving infection control of biomedical devices. He is Director of the
Stevens Laboratory for Multiscale Imaging, a multiuser facility with advanced capabilities for
TEM, SEM, AFM, and confocal imaging. His research group is known internationally for its work on
high-resolution spectroscopic imaging of soft materials in the cryo-STEM.
