The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in Thermal Sciences and Energy Systems. Candidates with research interests involving novel applications in advanced energy systems, energy production, storage and end-use are of interest. Specific areas may include: advanced renewable energy technologies, alternative fuel combustion and smart energy technologies. Candidates at the interface of two or more of these areas are especially encouraged to apply. The appointments are intended to be at the assistant professor level. Senior positions will be considered for applicants with exceptional stature and professional record.
The Department has vigorous industry and government supported research programs especially in the areas of in¬tegrated product and process design, manufacturing, guidance and control and microdevices. Annual research expenditures are at $200K per tenure-track faculty member.
The Department is seeking outstanding faculty members who conduct innovative research at the systems, components and/or devices level to enhance system performance. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program as well as participate in collaborative projects with an interdisciplinary group of faculty in the School. The starting date for both positions is August 1st, 2010.

The Biomedical Engineering Program at Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure track position at the Associate Professor or Professor level. The Biomedical Engineering Program is six years old and offers Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. Degrees. There are presently six full time faculty members in BME, with several electrical and computer engineering faculty and industry- and clinically-based adjunct faculty supporting the program. There are approximately 90 BME junior and senior undergraduates, 40 master’s candidates and eight Ph.D. candidates. The Ph.D. program is two years old and we expect it to grow significantly over the next several years. Our BME faculty members have extramural funding from the NIH, NSF, the Coulter Foundation, the AO Foundation, and American Heart Association.
Stevens is a thriving academic research community. The BME program is part of the Department of Chemistry, Chemical Biology and Biomedical Engineering. This structure offers a unique opportunity for research collaboration with faculty experts in the basic biological and chemical sciences. Additionally, our faculty have established research collaborations with clinical faculty at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School, New York Medical College, NYU Medical School, and Hackensack University Medical Center.
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in biomedical engineering or a related engineering discipline. We are especially interested in candidates with backgrounds and active research programs in neural and electrical engineering. Industrial experience in the design of biomedical devices is desirable.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an extramurally-funded research program and participate in both graduate and undergraduate teaching, including the BME senior capstone design course. The Computer Science Department at Stevens Institute of Technology
invites applications for a teaching position. Applicants are expected
to have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field.
Exceptional candidates who do not have a Ph.D. will be considered.
Duties will be to teach 3 or 4 courses per semester, contribute to
curriculum development, and take an active role in student advising.
The department has 16 full-time faculty, close to 200 undergraduate
majors, hundreds of full-time and part-time Masters students, and
about 25 doctoral students.
Stevens Institute of Technology is a private university located in

Direction by Others: Associate Dean for Research sets research strategy for the School. Associate Dean for Academic Programs identifies courses to be taught.
Direction to Others: Will be a leader within the SwE research cluster; will supervise the research of graduate students.
Duties of the SwE Research Professor include:
• Develop new research initiatives and support existing externally funded research in the area of Software Engineering, with particular emphasis on identifying and developing methods, processes and tools applicable to highly collaborative and evolutionary software development,
• Contribute to curriculum and course development in the area of Software Engineering,
• Deliver 2 courses per year,
• Support, mentor and advise doctoral students, and
• Develop and cultivate relationships with various constituencies, including professional societies, research and educational organizations that will further advance the professional standing and have other distinct benefits to the Institute.
Education: PhD in an engineering discipline or related science
Experience: Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in industry or government. Demonstrated ability to conduct and lead research programs in areas of relevance to the School of Systems and Enterprises.
