Established in 1870 and located on the banks of the Hudson River across from mid-town Manhattan in Hoboken NJ, Stevens Institute of Technology (www.stevens.edu) offers baccalaureate, masters and doctoral degrees in engineering, science, computer science, management and technology management, as well as a baccalaureate in the humanities and liberal arts, and in business and technology. The university has enrollments of 1,780 undergraduates and 2,600 graduate students.

Position: Assistant Professor's

Department: Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in Thermal Sciences and Energy Systems. Candidates with research interests involving novel applications in advanced energy systems, energy production, storage and end-use are of interest. Specific areas may include: advanced renewable energy technologies, alternative fuel combustion and smart energy technologies. Candidates at the interface of two or more of these areas are especially encouraged to apply. The appointments are intended to be at the assistant professor level. Senior positions will be considered for applicants with exceptional stature and professional record.

The Department has vigorous industry and government supported research programs especially in the areas of in¬tegrated product and process design, manufacturing, guidance and control and microdevices. Annual research expenditures are at $200K per tenure-track faculty member.

The Department is seeking outstanding faculty members who conduct innovative research at the systems, components and/or devices level to enhance system performance. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program as well as participate in collaborative projects with an interdisciplinary group of faculty in the School. The starting date for both positions is August 1st, 2010.

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely allied discipline. Excellent teaching and communications skills are essential. Consideration will be given to candidates with a record of attracting ex¬ternal support and building collaboration among academic, industrial, and government groups. The appointee would be expected to assist Stevens in its campaign on Techno¬genesis – the educational frontier wherein students, faculty and industry jointly nurture new technologies from concept to realization.

Position: Lecturer

Department: Chemistry,Chemical Biology and Biomedical Engineering

Teaching general biology and general chemistry, and advanced courses in computational biology and computational chemistry; designing, maintaining and supervising the operation of instructional general chemistry laboratories. Must have PhD. in biology, extensive knowledge of chemistry, and excellent personal & pedagogical skills.

Position: Associate Professor or Professor

Department: Chemistry,Chemical Biology and Biomedical Engineering

The Biomedical Engineering Program at Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure track position at the Associate Professor or Professor level. The Biomedical Engineering Program is six years old and offers Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. Degrees. There are presently six full time faculty members in BME, with several electrical and computer engineering faculty and industry- and clinically-based adjunct faculty supporting the program. There are approximately 90 BME junior and senior undergraduates, 40 master’s candidates and eight Ph.D. candidates. The Ph.D. program is two years old and we expect it to grow significantly over the next several years. Our BME faculty members have extramural funding from the NIH, NSF, the Coulter Foundation, the AO Foundation, and American Heart Association.

Stevens is a thriving academic research community. The BME program is part of the Department of Chemistry, Chemical Biology and Biomedical Engineering. This structure offers a unique opportunity for research collaboration with faculty experts in the basic biological and chemical sciences. Additionally, our faculty have established research collaborations with clinical faculty at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School, New York Medical College, NYU Medical School, and Hackensack University Medical Center.

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in biomedical engineering or a related engineering discipline. We are especially interested in candidates with backgrounds and active research programs in neural and electrical engineering. Industrial experience in the design of biomedical devices is desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an extramurally-funded research program and participate in both graduate and undergraduate teaching, including the BME senior capstone design course. Position: Physical Chemistry (Faculty Tenure Track Position)

Position: CEMS Undergraduate Laboratory Supervisor/Teaching Professor

Department: School of Engineering

A highly motivated individual is sought to support the Chemical Engineering undergraduate laboratory operation as well as provide instructional services in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. As Undergraduate Laboratory Supervisor/Teaching Professor, this individual will have the following primary duties:

• Be responsible for all the functions of the ChE undergraduate lab including but not limited to, development of new experiments, upgrading existing bench scale experiments with assistance from faculty members in the department.

• Be responsible for the production of laboratory manuals and procedures and the proper stocking of laboratory supplies.

• Ensure working condition of laboratory equipment including undertaking minor repair as well as compliance with health and safety requirements in laboratory operation.

• Provide support for and/or supervise hands-on ChE design projects that require substantial use of the undergraduate laboratory.

• Contribute to the teaching in the Chemical Engineering discipline per need of the department.

The successful candidate must possess a minimum of Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering with relevant laboratory experience. A doctoral degree with a proven teaching record will be required for the laboratory supervisor to also hold a teaching professorship if deemed qualified for classroom instructions. Salary for this full-time non-tenure track position will be commensurate with experience.

Position: Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Supervisor/Instructor

Department: School of Engineering

Position: Tenure Track Professor

Department: Computer Science Department

The Computer Science Department at Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for a teaching position. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field. Exceptional candidates who do not have a Ph.D. will be considered. Duties will be to teach 3 or 4 courses per semester, contribute to curriculum development, and take an active role in student advising.

The department has 16 full-time faculty, close to 200 undergraduate majors, hundreds of full-time and part-time Masters students, and about 25 doctoral students.

Stevens Institute of Technology is a private university located in Hoboken, New Jersey. The 55-acre campus is on the Hudson river across from midtown Manhattan within a few minutes from NYC via public transportation. Hoboken is a small upscale urban city, the residence of New Jersey's governor, and the residence of choice for many professionals working in NYC. Faculty live in Hoboken, NYC, and in bucolic suburban communities in Northern New Jersey along commuter train lines to Hoboken and NYC.

Position: Software Engineering Research Professor

Department: School of Systems and Enterprises

Non-tenure Tenure Track, Full Time Research Professor. Option to convert to Tenure/Tenure Track after one or two years, if mutually agreed.

Reports to: Associate Dean for Research
Direction by Others: Associate Dean for Research sets research strategy for the School. Associate Dean for Academic Programs identifies courses to be taught.

Direction to Others: Will be a leader within the SwE research cluster; will supervise the research of graduate students.

Duties of the SwE Research Professor include:

• Develop new research initiatives and support existing externally funded research in the area of Software Engineering, with particular emphasis on identifying and developing methods, processes and tools applicable to highly collaborative and evolutionary software development,
• Contribute to curriculum and course development in the area of Software Engineering,
• Deliver 2 courses per year,
• Support, mentor and advise doctoral students, and
• Develop and cultivate relationships with various constituencies, including professional societies, research and educational organizations that will further advance the professional standing and have other distinct benefits to the Institute.


Education: PhD in an engineering discipline or related science
Experience: Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in industry or government. Demonstrated ability to conduct and lead research programs in areas of relevance to the School of Systems and Enterprises.
Other Skills: Strong analytic skills; strong communication skills.

The Department of Business and technology at Stevens Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track position in the area of Quantitative Finance.

The successful candidate will have established accomplishments and outstanding promise in research, as well as a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. Incumbent should have a distinguished reputation for research and undergraduate training in applied mathematics, statistics, or operations research and its application to the theory and practice if quantitative finance.
