“Social networking” and the technologies that facilitate it have exploded in recent years. Increasingly, social software is being applied in enterprise settings, as organizations have recognized the significant impact that social networking applications can have on innovation – the creation of value through the implementation of new knowledge and ideas.

On the positive side, these tools, exemplified by such vehicles as networking sites, social file sharing, crowdsourcing, mashups, tweets, microblogging et al, can drive innovation by helping people collaborate across time and distance. Using the new social media technology, enlightened organizations are discovering how to work more effectively in our global economy by developing new types of relationships both internally as well as with developers, suppliers, producers, and customers from cultures around the world. On the other hand, it has been argued that such networking tools can undermine creativity and innovation and are creating a divide between the different generations in the workplace. Whether for good or for ill, the implications of the new technologies for innovation will be profound.


The 20th Annual HSATM Conference will explore and clarify both sides of the argument. Attendees will take away guidance on how their organizations can accelerate innovation by effectively addressing the challenges of collaborating across the distributed, global enterprise, while avoiding the potential pitfalls. The Conference will appeal to people working in R&D, marketing, business development, operations, project management, HR, technology – in short, to everyone concerned with creating value through the implementation of new knowledge and ideas.

 

Instructions for participation from a remote location 
 

You can participate in this meeting from a remote location.  You will be able to hear the presenter, see the slides, hear questions and comments from both the on-site and remote Roundtable participants, and ask questions and take part in the discussion.  Virtual participation will not provide the full benefits of actual attendance, so we encourage you to attend in person if possible.  For those for whom this is impractical, however, virtual participation is a worthwhile alternative.
 

We use the Wimba Classroom software.  Please run the Setup Wizard a few days prior to the live meeting to configure the computer you will use.  Click on the link http://stevenslive.wimba.com/wizard/launcher.cgi?wc=wms and follow the prompts.  Once you have downloaded the software you can log in to the event at http://stevenslive.wimba.com/launcher.cgi?room=HSATM  Enter your full name in the participant login box.
