About the Office of Residence Life

Mission

The Mission of the Office of Residence Life is to provide a safe, supportive and dynamic living and dining environment for students that supports  the mission of the Institution.  We create and foster a helping community of responsible, accountable citizens.

Location

Located on the 7th floor of the Wesley J. Howe Center, the Office of Residence Life is the administrative office responsible for coordinating all activities concerning all residence and dining halls. The office is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday.

Staff

Trina Ballantyne, Dean  
Trina is responsible for the overall management and operations for all areas of Residence Life and Dining Services.  Trina also coordinates summer conference housing. Trina can be reached via email or at (201) 216-5128.

Tony Blazini, Director
Tony is responsible for the management of the Office of Residence Life. Tony can be reached via email or at (201) 216-5128.

Patrick Monaco, Assistant Director
Patrick is responsible for the management of all residence halls both on campus and offcampus. Patrick also manages the housing workorder system. Patrick can be reached via email or at (201) 216-5128.

Kurtis Watkins,  Assistant Director - RA/RC Programs, Conference Services, Judicial Officer
Kurtis is responsible for the management of the Resident Assistant and Resident Coordinator programs in all residence halls with a concentration on student development.  Kurtis has direct supervision of the Area Coordinators who in turn supervise the Resident Assistants, who take care of the on campus buildings, and Resident Coordinators, who handle off campus apartments.  Kurtis can be reached via email or at (201) 216-5128.

Martha Gonzalez, Business Manager - ID Cards/Meal Plans
Martha is responsible for various business related aspects of the office.  This includes the encoding of all student ID cards, student meal plans, adjusting charges/credits for the student meal plans, submitting meal plan invoices, reconciling commuter meal plans, conference billing and budget analysis.  Martha is also the contact for Suite A reservations.  Martha can be reached via email or at (201) 216-5128.

Cathy McGuire - Office Manager
Cathy is responsible for the general management of the office. Cathy also coordinates room assignments, room changes and conference housing. Cathy can be reached via email or at (201) 216-5128.

Tomasita Jallad, Maria Marte, Becky Falto - Area Coordinators
The Area Coordinator (AC)  is a live-in, full time staff position in the Office of Residence Life.  The AC will plan, organize and direct community and student development, staffing functions and administrative details.  The AC directly supervises the Resident Assistant (RA) and Resident Coordinator staff , assisting in the development of a cohesive and responsive group. The AC receives direct supervision from the Assistant Directors (AD) of Residence Life and assist the Assistant Director of Residence Life with all aspects of the RA program. Residence life experience required, Masters Degree preferred. 

Joe Finora, Mercy Daramola, Steven Couras - Assistant Area Coordinators
The Assistant Area Coordinator (AAC)  is a live-in, part time staff position in the Office of Residence Life.  The AACs directly assist the ACs with their various job functions.  The AACs also directly supervise the Resident Assistant (RA) and Resident Coordinator staff, assisting in the development of a cohesive and responsive group.  Residence life experience required. 

Resident Assistants
The Resident Assistant (RA) is a paraprofessional staff member of the Office of Residence Life (ORL) and reports directly to one of the Area Coordinators (AC).  Primarily, the RA is concerned with the growth and development of each individual on his/her floor and the building community as a whole.  Additionally, RA’s are continually striving to enhance the quality of life for our residents.  

Resident Coordinators The Resident Coordinator (RC) is a live-in position responsible for the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students living in off-campus Stevens Institute of Technology leased apartments in Hoboken. The RC plans and carries out the daily administrative, advisory, programmatic, counseling, facility maintenance, and disciplinary needs of the individual areas.  The position supports the development of the individual resident within a mature context of responsibility and personal motivation.  RCs will direct their primary attention to leadership of the area and report to the Area Coordinator.

Work Crew The Work Crew staff assists the Assistant Director of Facilities and Director of Residence
Life in completing tasks within the residence halls, storage rooms, and Area Offices.
