Stevens Institute of Technology

Global Programs

China Program

Stevens offers one of the most highly acclaimed programs of any international graduate school in China. The China program is honored by the Sloan Foundation and reported widely in IEEE Spectrum and the Chronicle of Higher Education, among others.  More than 130 students are now enrolled or have earned their masters degrees from three programs in Beijing at two prestigious universities—Beijing Institute of Technology and Central University of Finance and Economics. Agreements with two other top-ranked schoolls, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, were recently finalized.

Stevens Institute of Technology, in collaboration with several notable Chinese schools of higher education, has initiated significant masters and corporate training programs in China. One-third of the courses are delivered online by Stevens' faculty. Another third are taught in conventional classrooms in China by Stevens' faculty, and the final third are delivered face-to-face in China by faculty from partner institutions.  All courses are delivered in English. Degrees earned by students in China are the same as those awarded by Stevens to students in the U.S. Current programs have been approved and accredited by the Chinese Ministry of Education.

Beijing Institute of Technology
Offers two masters degrees - one in Telecommunications Management and another in Photonics and Microelectronics. Stevens' first graduate programs in China were launched three years.  All students who entered the telecommunications program graduated successfully in 2005 and are now working at top international and Chinese high-tech companies. A second cohort graduated this January.

Central University of Finance and Economics

Delivers a masters program in Project Management. The program, delivered to 30 employees of the China Development Bank, concluded with the spring semester of 2007. It was one of the few programs in China offered by a US university to employees of a Chinese company. Students attended graduation ceremonies on the Hoboken campus in May 2007. A new cohort started fall 2007.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University

Two programs--one in Telecommunications Management and another in Information Technology--are waiting for approval from the Chinese Ministry of Education. Degrees awarded and delivery modes will follow the same pattern as those at Beijing Institute of Technology and Central University of Finance and Economics.

US Amway and China

In a unique partnership to build a cadre of global leaders, Stevens Institute for Technical Leadership and Amway, the $7 billion worldwide direct-selling company, are collaborating on providing key Amway personnel with twenty-first century leadership skills. Instructor-led online modules are delivered over 18 months to Amway employees in the US and China by Stevens' faculty. Before entering online classrooms - where they are divided into virtual leadership teams - Amway participants complete a sweries of web-based assessment tools to provide insight into how their personalities and behavior align with the company's goals and their own development. Employees then engage in online modules, starting with how to build self-awareness, followed by how to lead innovation and change, Amway personnel learn about decision-making, coaching and mentoring, and strategic leadership. Along with way, Stevens' faculty coach participants to embrace a path to leadership at Amway.

Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications

A Memorandum of Understanding has been concluded.

International Business Machines Corporation

A pilot program to assess IBM technical employees in China was conducted in 2007. A benchmarking survey of Fortune 500 companies operating in hypergrowth economies was concluded at the end of 2007 (see Stevens Survey announcement).

Institute for Technical Leadership

Stevens Institute for Technical Leadership focuses on the hypergrowth economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China, the so-called "BRIC" countries. Stevens’ research on technical workforce development in China and other accelerating economies gives Stevens a unique perspective on employee loyalty, modestly trained personnel, and relationships between headquarters and local management. The Institute offers an 8-module Technical Leadership Certificate and an Assessment, Feedback and Coaching program for technical personnel  (see the Institute for Technical Leadership).
