Software

We will also be using Scientific Notebook (SNB). SNB is a word processor that contains a Maple kernel. Maple is a powerful mathematical tool that allows one to integrate, differentiate, graph, solve differential equations, perform matrix operations, etc. In addition, SNB interfaces with the Internet so that one can download .tex files and have them open in SNB. Stevens has negotiated a site license for SNB, so that it was part of the software suite you received with your computer if you came to Stevens this year or last. If you do not have SNB, this will not be a problem, since we will be beta testing a new version of SNB which you will get at no cost.  You must be running Windows 95, Windows NT or 98  in order to install SNB. You should also have Netscape Communicator 4.5 or Internet Explorer 4.0 running on your computer. If you do not have the latest version of Netscape, you can download it from  Netscape Updates . If you do not have the latest version of Internet Explorer, you can get it from  Explorer Updates .

Problems Running Scientific Notebook

If you get a message about a missing dll file when you try to run SNB, then you will have to download these files into your Windows/System directory (not the System 32 directory that is also under Windows if you have Windows 98). Hold down the shift key as you click to download  sh32w32.dll  and  sh33w32.dll .
