Research Facilities:
The Keck Geotechnical/Geoenvironmental Structures Laboratories
The James C. Nicoll Environmental Laboratory
Davidson Laboratory
Stevens is a member of the New Jersey Marine Science Consortium and has access to their facilities for conducting estuarine and ocean science research. Stevens also has 2 research vessels for conducting ocean engineering research.
Research Interests:
In addition to the professional focus of the program, the department of Civil, Environmental, and Ocean Engineering also has active water-resources related research in the following areas: Monitoring of toxic pollutants in the Hudson-Raritan estuary, stochastic aspects of saturated and unsaturated groundwater flow modeling, advanced oxidation of hazardous waste, statistical process control of wastewater treatment, hydrodynamic modeling of currents and the dispersion of effluents in the coastal zone, coastal sediment transport, and analysis of current and waves observation in the coastal ocean.
Future areas of research interest include freshwater and saltwater wetlands mitigation and restoration. Surface water contamination, resulting from the application of agricultural chemicals. Treatment of stormwater to eliminate the detention/storage requirements.
