The recruitment and retention of world-class faculty is absolutely critical to Stevens' growth and increasing prominence. The Stevens Strategic Plan The Future. Ours to Create. calls for a strategic, significant expansion in faculty cohort during the next decade, and endowed chairs and other faculty support will consequently become essential to achieving the goals set out in the Strategic Plan.
In recognition of this fact, David Farber '56 MS '61 — a pioneer in the architecture of the original physical backbone of the Internet — graciously donated an endowed faculty chair in Computer Science to Stevens in October 2012. This chair will enable Stevens to move to the forefront of research and discourse around issues of technology and societal change.
Another significant gift was received in December 2012 when the estate of Elbert Calhoun Brinning, Jr. awarded Stevens $2 million to create The Viola Ward Brinning and Elbert Calhoun Brinning Endowed Chair in the Schaefer School of Engineering and Science.
And yet another faculty gift was received in 2013, when engineer, philanthropist and business executive A. James Clark pledged $2 million to Stevens to create the Nariman Farvardin Endowed Chair in Civil Engineering in the Schaefer School.

On April 6, Stevens celebrated the accomplishments of 13 remarkable individuals at the inaugural Stevens Awards Gala in midtown Manhattan.
Providing financial aid through scholarships is a core commitment of Stevens. The ability to increase the financial aid packages that we offer to students and their families is due to the generosity of our alumni and friends who graciously fund endowed and fellowship scholarships every year.
