Volunteer Summit 2007

Held at the Hoxie House on Tuesday, 18 September 2007

Thank you to all the alumni who attended the event and provided invaluable insight into accomplishing the strategic goals of Stevens. We look forward to collaborating with you to ensure Stevens a position of prestige and excellence both locally and in the global market.

The evening began with presentations from our keynote speakers; President Hal Raveché, Provost George Korfiatis, and Vice President of Development and University Communications Marjorie Everitt. Afterwards, dinner was served in the Sunroom where Paul Magnone ’88, Annual Giving Council Chairperson, led the panel discussion "Volunteering for Impact." Jim Behnke '02, G.O.L.D. Chairperson, Ed Eichorn '69, SAA President, and Paul Steffen '57, 1957 50 th Anniversary Committee member, participated on the panel, sharing their fundraising experiences with the various constituencies within the Stevens community.

Although there was many important points raised, three of the major themes discussed were:

Growing participation to boost giving. Stevens needs to increase the number of alumni who give and the total dollar amount the alumni are giving. In order to achieve greater levels of success, participation must go beyond alumni and encompass students, friends, family, foundations, and corporations. Networking will be key in accomplishing this and building stronger relationships.

Add prestige to Stevens’ reputation. Prospective students, their parents, employers, donors, foundations, corporations, and the like value the Institute above others and provide support when Stevens shows success and promotes a positive status. To add prestige, Stevens must strengthen its financial base and grow the number donors to affect the overall ranking of the Institute.

Increase communication among alumni base. With preparations beginning for the next capital campaign, Stevens needs to re-engage and re-energize its volunteers. Educating the alumni and community about Stevens’ current state, its fund targets and other priorities will position the school for greater outcomes withjn the next campaign.
