Trends in War, Bad and Good

I just got the 2009 Yearbook of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, published by Oxford University Press. It’s the best source I know of for up-to-date info on war, peace, arms, armies, etc. Some worrisome trends:
Global spending on weapons has risen 4 percent a year over the past 10 years, to about $1.4 trillion. [...]
