This workshop brings together clinicians, scientists and engineers in a uniquely interdisciplinary environment to address the multi-faceted challenges of nanotechnology and oncology. The theme of the workshop is the exploration of approaches and designs for novel cancer nano-based diagnostic modalities and therapeutics based on high-fidelity engineered cancer models, as well as better understanding of integrated pathophysiological processes that modulate human tumor functionality and growth.

2014 Invited Speaker Biographies

Objectives

  • Review recent breakthrough advances in nanomedicine and engineering, 3D tumor microenviornments and ex vivo (i.e., “tumor engineering”) for cancer diagnosis and therapy
  • Identify new synergistic research opportunities and scientific challenges to further advance nanomedicine and tumor engineering for cancer diagnosis and therapy
  • Provide an impetus for research collaborations

Opportunities

  • Preclinical evaluation of technologies enabling nanomedicine
  • Personalized drug selection based on diagnostic screening of human tumor cells

Target Audience

Clinicians, investigators and students from regional universities, medical schools and cancer centers

Call for Poster Presentations

Attendees were invited to submit a one-page poster abstract addressing the workshop theme including, but not limited to, the following categories of nanomedicine research using enabling technologies (nanomaterials, nanofabrication, nanomanipulation) for cancer diagnosis and therapy:

  • In vitro diagnostics
  • In vivo imaging
  • Therapeutic techniques
  • Drug delivery
  • Biomaterials
  • Tissue engineering
  • Tumor engineering
  • Cell mechanics

Meritorious rapid talks will be selected from the poster abstract submissions and will be presented during the working lunch, followed by a poster presentation session featuring all accepted poster abstracts.

The poster abstract deadline was September 5, 2014, 11:59 PM EDT.  The corresponding author will be notified by September 12, 2014 with instructions for presentation preparation.
