Research

The Program in History is committed to creating scholarship and new knowledge, not simply in transmitting it, and therefore the faculty in the Program are actively engaged researchers as well as teachers. The areas of their scholarly research span topics in World History, American social, economic and cultural history, modern European history, historical geography, the history of science, the history of technology, historiography, and Middle Eastern history and culture. Program faculty publish articles in leading journals and books under the imprint of leading university presses. Prize-winning works by our faculty have been crowned by the World History Association and the American Philosophical Society. We are keen to convey the excitement of original research and lessons in methodology to students in our courses and especially to majors writing senior theses.
