Leading in a Changing Environment: Leading Multi-Generational Teams
One of today's key challenges for management is the presence of up to four generations, with four distinct and different cultures, working side-by-side (or struggling to do so). The successful leader of today must know how to navigate the shoals of the generational culture gaps that manifest themselves through distinct differences in values, motivators, de-motivators, communication and use of technology.
The Roundtable will start with a scene-set by Steve Jacobs, president of Global BioPharm Solutions, drawn from his Conference presentation. Steve will then facilitate discussion by a panel representing each of the generations: "Lost" (over 66), "Baby Boomers" (49-66), "Generation X" (28-48), and "Generation Y" ("Millennials", 18-27).
The panel will be presented with real environments and situations, and their responses to the situations are expected to paint a clear picture of the differences in generational perceptions. Those differences will be explored and then followed up with a discussion, which will clarify the defining moments and characteristics of each generation. The last part of the meeting will focus on techniques for bridging the gaps and avoiding the pitfalls that emerge when these different work cultures come together, and work to create high performing multigenerational teams.
Note: For optimum benefit to your organization, please consider sending a few people representing a few of the generations defined above . This will aid in having multiple generations represented, which will ensure a highly illuminating and productive discussion.
