Stevens Lanes is undergoing some major
renovations this summer, which will be completed by the start of the Fall
2002 semester. You'll notice a fresh clean new look and an all-around
better bowling alley when the renovations are complete.
The renovations are being
completed in three phases:
- Cleaning of current equipment
that will be kept. This includes the lanes, the approaches to
the lanes, the pinsetters, and the seats. The walls will be painted
and repairs to the bowling alley will be performed during this time.
- Removal of old equipment and
installation of new equipment. This should occur sometime in the
beginning of August, at which time balls, shoes, and pins that are no
longer being kept will be thrown out.
- Testing and setting up new
equipment. All of the new equipment needs to be tested
thoroughly to be sure it performs correctly when the bowling alley reopens
in the fall.
Items that are being kept:
- Brunswick A-2 Pinsetters - new
ball protection devices (to protect balls from being damaged) will be
installed. The machines will be cleaned well to ensure that balls
and pins remain clean.
- Brunswick power ball lift - the
device that lifts the balls out of the ball return track is being kept,
but the actual ball return housing and the rack where the balls are
returned to are being replaced.
- Synthetic lanes - the lanes are in
excellent shape, but will be re-leveled and scrubbed.
- Seats - the seats will be cleaned
before the bowling alley reopens.
- Lockers - the lockers will not be
changed in any way.
Items that are being replaced:
- Brunswick AS-K automatic scoring
system - the entire scoring system will be replaced to make way for a
modern scoring system, called Steltronic, to be installed. This new
system uses overhead monitors instead of lower console monitors that are
in use now. This system also has many more great features than the
current system has, including the ability to store league information and
create tournaments.
- Brunswick 2000-series ball return
hoods/racks, masking units, and foul detectors - the ball return lift
itself will stay, but the rest of the ball return assembly will be
replaced by a more modern looking one. The masking units (the
pictures that are over the pins) will be totally replaced, and will have a
high-quality modern glow-in-the-dark image on them. The foul
detectors will also be replaced and will match the new ball return
assembly.
- Gutters and capping - all of the
gutters, as well as the capping between the lanes and above the ball
return track are being replaced with newer, more colorful ones.
- The front counter is being
repaired and will have new colors to match the new color scheme of the
bowling alley.
New features of the bowling alley
after the renovations:
- A new stereo system will be
available, including a CD player. New speakers will also be
installed above the lanes.
- We will have two TVs installed,
which will be connected to regular cable-TV and a DVD Player and VCR.
The scoring system's overhead monitors can also function as TV monitors
for TV/DVD/VCR viewing. The sound will be hooked into the new stereo
system for extremely high quality sound!
- Glow-in-the-dark pins, balls, and
equipment will be in use.
- Black lights, lasers, and
theatrical lighting equipment are being installed for the
cosmic/glow/laser light bowling nights. More information about this
will follow when the semester begins.
- New network ports and electrical
outlets for laptops will be installed. Wireless access is also
available.
Thanks to Andrew
Syvertsen and Chi Yan for all of their hard work during the summer helping
me out with the renovations. Without them, this would not have been
possible!! |
