Dr. Nariman Farvardin, the next president of Stevens, and Dr. George P. Korfiatis, Stevens’ interim president and provost, will be the guest speakers at the Stevens Alumni Luncheon on Saturday, June 4, during Alumni Weekend. The Alumni Luncheon is scheduled from noon to 2:00 p.m. inside Canavan Arena, Schaefer Center. All alumni are encouraged to attend the luncheon and hear their comments.

The two presidents are also expected to attend reunion class gatherings on Friday night, June 3. Alumni Weekend 2011 is June 3, 4 and 5.

Dr. Farvardin is currently the provost at the University of Maryland, College Park. He will officially take office as Stevens’ seventh president on July 1, 2011. When Dr. Farvardin’s term begins, Dr. Korfiatis’ duration as interim president will end, but he will remain university vice president and provost.

The themes of the two presidents’ luncheon speeches could be described as “Stevens Today and Tomorrow.” Dr. Korfiatis is expected to speak about the present-day Stevens and its accomplishments, with improvements in enrollment and the faculty, the research enterprise and innovation. Dr. Farvardin will make some introductory remarks and share his vision of Stevens’ future.

Several welcoming events with Dr. Farvardin and the Stevens community were held on campus on Jan. 26, a week after the announcement that he would be the next president. He and his family will live on campus in Hoxie House, the traditional home of the Stevens president, and his office will be on the 13th floor of the Howe Center.
