Industry Panel A Success...A Round of Thanks To Our
Visitors and Their Efforts To Aid The Upcoming Generation of Engineers!!!
Students gained great benefit hearing from the visiting engineers from
various positions in industry. Alex Edmiston, P.E. (BOC Gas) brought to
light the importance of knowing one's career destinations early on so as to be
able to properly guide oneself up the correct branches of the corporate
tree. One wants to avoid being in the middle of a career and not being
happy with their current position....in cases like this it becomes increasingly
difficult to get where one wants to be. A little foresight can go a long
way.
Gus Hoban (BOC Gas) discussed the importance of not "pigeon holing"
oneself. There are many opportunities and jobs available. It is
important not to become limited in scope and to try to let ourselves be as
versatile as possible.
Patrick T. Connor Ph.D. (Pall Engineering) discussed his experiences in
crossing over from academics to industry. He found the materials he learned in
school to be important. Classes are to be taken seriously because they do
hold relevance to what will come.
Jim Ulis (Schering Plough) discussed his experience in the pharmaceutical
industry with an emphasis on the great amount of regulation that is a part of
this industry. He also shed light onto the importance of safety and
environmental concerns for chemical engineers.
These Representatives did a great Job and the Stevens student body and AIChE
extends our most sincere gratitude for their extra efforts to help the upcoming
generation of chemical engineers!!!!!!
